Hundreds Rally at Travis Air Force Base, Demanding End to Support for Gaza Bombing
Fairfield, CA - CODEPINK joins Youth4Palestine and other others for an act of nonviolent resistance with hundreds set to gather at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA, on February 7, from 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM, demanding an immediate cessation of military aid to Israel and an end to the relentless bombing of Gaza. Endorsed by numerous advocacy groups, the rally aims to halt the complicity of Travis Air Force Base in what many see as genocide and ethnic cleansing.
Travis Air Force Base, the largest transport base in the United States, has come under intense scrutiny for its role in facilitating the transportation of weapons and military supplies to Israel. This support, protesters argue, directly contributes to the ongoing murder of genocide in Gaza, where over 30,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives.
"The U.S. government and Travis Air Force Base are complicit in the brutal slaughter of innocent civilians in Gaza," said Toby Blomé, the organizer of the rally. "We cannot stand idly by while our tax dollars fund such atrocities."
Participants are urged to gather at the Main Gate of Travis Air Force Base, at the end of Air Base Parkway, while others will go directly to the North & South Gates. Banners, signs, and Palestinian flags are encouraged, as demonstrators unite in solidarity for the people of Gaza. Legal observers will be present to ensure the safety and adherence to nonviolent guidelines.
"We will continue to return until the bombing ends and humanitarian aid is provided," Blomé declared. "The world must witness our outcry: Stop the genocide! Free Palestine now!"
The rally follows a peaceful demonstration on December 28, 2023, where approximately 150 individuals converged at Travis AFB, resulting in the arrest of 14 protesters. The arraignment for the "Travis 14" is scheduled for February 23, in Fairfield, CA.
The event was co-organized by Palestinian led Youth4Palestine based in Sacramento, and SF Bay Area CODEPINK, with much support and planning from local allies in the peace & justice community, who also sponsored it.
