No Increase $$ for Military Spending!

The 2019 Pentagon budget is already $716 billion and now Trump is proposing a nearly five percent increase, bringing the total “national security” (aka military) 2020 budget to a revolting $750 billion, including billions for the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal and Trump’s border wall. Meanwhile, communities in the U.S. struggle to meet basic human needs and maintain infrastructure.

The American public wants a Green New Deal, a Medicare for All health system, and free college education for our nation’s youth. How can we afford these programs? The answer is simple: Chop the Pentagon budget and put the “savings” into these critical programs that would truly make our nation more secure.

Tell Congress to reject Trump's 2020 Pentagon budget.

The Trump administration is proposing an increase of almost 5 percent for the Pentagon, bringing its budget to a whopping $750 billion. Yet the agency failed an audit of its spending in 2018. Military spending fuels endless wars and stimulates new conflict, including regime change in foreign states. Corporate weapons manufacturers lobby to ensure inflated military spending that does not benefit society but serves to enrich a small number of corporations.

Trump wants to increase Pentagon spending while slashing funds for basic needs. Over forty percent of U.S. residents are either poor or low-income and cannot afford decent health care, food, or housing. We also face a dire environmental crisis that demands a reorientation of our funding priorities.

As your constituent, I want a Green New Deal, a Medicare for All health system, and free college education for our nation’s youth. How can we afford these programs? The answer is simple: Chop the Pentagon budget and put the “savings” into these critical programs that would truly make our nation more secure. I ask you to reject Trump's Pentagon budget. Please bring our tax dollars home to our communities, where it is sorely needed.

Thank you.

How incredible … lots and lots of money for killing people but none for education, food, housing or health. That’s for “Making America Great Again”.

I just told Congress to reject Trump’s proposed Pentagon budget. No 5% increase for the Pentagon for more endless wars! Keep our tax dollars at home for health care, food, shelter & money for a #GreenNewDeal. #DivestFromWar. Via @codepink https://www.codepink.org/militaryspending?recruiter_id=467862

“No taxation without representation!” – a rallying cry heard throughout our Early American Colonies in opposition to the British Parliament imposing various tax levies upon the colonists, who had no representation within that same Parliament. Likewise, I don’t think anyone truly believes that our so-called representatives in Congress are spending our money in a way that we the taxpayers would like. For the most part, they are too busy doling out largess to their biggest donors. Therefore, I propose that the infamous Form 1040 be amended to include a list of questions which ask the taxpayer how they want their tax dollars spent. Maybe 10 questions that would ascribe a percentage to education, health care, defense and so forth. The answers should add up to 100%, easy enough with a little tweaking. Once all the returns are in, then, and only then, should the National Budget be created and must be in line with how the people “voted” on their tax returns, and that includes all citizens, even if they didn’t earn enough to pay taxes. So Mr.Trump, what do you think about that: Americans telling their own government how they want their money spent – the nerve of them! Bet there would be a lot of soldiers returning home to their families. All together now: “No taxation without representation!”
