Kevin Zeese was a lawyer, advocate and true activist for peace. His work focused varied from ending the war on drugs and mass incarceration to co-founding Occupy DC and PopularResistance.org.
We at CODEPINK had the privilege of working with Kevin as we've joined our efforts to oppose the Iraq War. In 2006, Kevin founded a national antiwar group, Voters for Peace, and served as its director for five years, strengthening our anti-war work.
Kevin was a brilliant writer, organizer, strategist and visionary. Wherever there was injustice, Kevin was there, with his partner Margaret.
As Kevin himself put it,
"To achieve economic, environmental and social justice requires a mass movement that follows a two-prong strategy of resistance and creation. It is not sufficient to protest the destructive rule of money; we must also create alternative systems that put people and the planet before profits and show we can replace the existing failed system."
Kevin passed away on September 6, 2020, leaving an incredible legacy that we are all building on.
