Fargo Residents Demand Ceasefire Vote at City Commission Level
FARGO, North Dakota – Residents of Fargo and members of the CODEPINK chapter of Fargo-Moorhead are wondering why, after over a month since the Fargo Human Rights Commission unanimously passed a ceasefire resolution, why the City Commission has not yet brought it to a vote. Tonight, they returned once again to demand the city pass the resolution.
The Mayor insists that it is an “international issue”. Organizers have routinely brought up that Mayor Mahoney was not resistant to showing symbolic support for Ukraine, when the city hall lit up yellow and blue in the wake of the Russian invasion, and the City of Fargo publicly spoke up in support of Ukraine saying “Fargo stands united with Ukrainians in our metro community and around the globe.”.
“It’s been over a month since our human rights commission passed this resolution. Moorhead passed it last week. Here in Fargo, it keeps getting pushed back despite support for the resolution in the community growing. Hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza are going to die of starvation if things continue like this. We don’t believe we are asking much of the city. The city commission can act like we and this issue are going to go away, but we aren’t.” Said the CODEPINK chapter in Fargo-Moorhead.
Residents of Fargo demand a vote on the resolution no later than the next city commission meeting on April 1.
