Defund the Pentagon $753 Billion

Contact Congress now to Defund the Pentagon and invest in our local communities!

🚨President Biden just proposed a $753,000,000,000 Pentagon budget that is billions more expensive than the final Pentagon Budget enacted under the Trump Administration.

✅The good news: Congress ultimately decides the Pentagon budget, not the President! Now is the time to show our representatives that we won’t accept a bloated Pentagon budget while our social services languish!

Tell your Congressional representatives to Defund the Pentagon and invest in human needs!

Now that President Biden has released the blueprint for his proposed budget, Congress can get to work on their own proposal for the Pentagon budget. That’s why it’s essential that we send a clear message: the people want to Defund the Pentagon and invest in our communities!

We know that spending $753 billion on the Pentagon budget won’t make us safer-- especially when over half of that goes directly into the pockets of private “defense” contractors like Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin. Contact Congress and tell them to put people over the profits of weapons companies by Defunding the Pentagon and investing in our communities!

Together with our progressive movement allies, we can send a strong message that we won’t accept a $753 billion Pentagon budget as the status quo. The real threats to our national security – pandemics, climate crisis, mass inequality, white nationalism – will not be solved by padding “defense” contractor’s bottom lines or building more nuclear weapons.

Let’s Defund the Pentagon and invest in our communities!

Towards peace,

Here in NM (Taos) close to Los Alamos and the center of nuclear weapons “modernization” there are a variety of groups working to defund the military. Greg Mello [] recently wrote :“the Empire sucks up resources to the tune of about $7,200/household-year (i.e. $934 billion/year divided by 130 million U.S. households)” to which I replied:

“Years ago, Santa Fe Institute Fellow Samuel Bowles pointed out that ONE IN FOUR people were employed in the Guard Industry. This would raise household share from $7,200/household to over $36,000 per household. Some notes here

From Samuel Bowles and Arjun Jayadev:

“Another dubious first for America: We now employ as many private security guards as high school teachers — over one million of them, or nearly double their number in 1980.

And that’s just a small fraction of what we call “guard labor.” In addition to private security guards, that means police officers, members of the armed forces, prison and court officials, civilian employees of the military, and those producing weapons: a total of 5.2 million workers in 2011. That is a far larger number than we have of teachers at all levels”
