I just finished reading the brilliant work book Jodie Evans published in December called Local Peace Economy and it dawned on me. I initiated an event in my community that falls in that category back in November that I wanted to share with you all.
I am an artist and have been participating in Open Studio tours out of my home studio for years. These events have been the high light of living here other than the glorious nature we are surrounded with. My latest art show in October inspired an idea that ended up being a gathering of 17 of us on my deck engaged in art making process. This was a free event and I provided the art supplies needed. The inspiration came out of my conversation with those who came to my show and expressed their need to make art but did not think they had the talent to do so. My argument was the only difference between us was my strong desire to create and that is what it takes to be engaged in the art making process.
Feelings that were expressed about the day left me so very fulfilled knowing just how few hours with my community members in the art space can bring about connections, empowerment, inspirations and so much more. I realized the concepts so well expressed in Jodie’s work book about our interconnections and how we all have the capacity to make a difference in our communities by simple acts of sharing and giving.
I am grateful!
