As universities across the country face growing pressure to cooperate with federal scrutiny of Chinese and other international researchers, the next University of Michigan president must be committed to defending academic freedom, due process, and the safety and dignity of all scholars on campus.
Together, we will call on the search committee to prioritize leadership that stands against xenophobia and ensures the university remains a place where international students and researchers can learn, teach, and innovate without fear.
