Cuba always helps the world in times of crisis, now Cubans need our help. Because of the U.S. embargo, they’re facing a syringe shortage. Help us send syringes to Cuba! |
Dear friend,
For over 60 years, the U.S. government has been attempting to overthrow the Cuban government by suffocating its economy. This is a brutal policy that harms ordinary people and is currently making it difficult for the country to vaccinate its population against Covid-19.
“Cuba is the only country to have shown genuine internationalism during this coronavirus crisis,” Noam Chomsky said about Cuban brigades traveling around the world to save lives. In addition to the brave doctors and nurses fighting the pandemic overseas on the frontlines, Cuba is developing four vaccines that it plans to share with developing countries.
Now is the time to reciprocate that solidarity by helping us raise $100,000 to send syringes to Cuba! With a $50 donation, we can purchase 1,500 syringes; $100 will buy 3000! Click here to donate!
We are very excited that our friends at Global Health Partners have just received a Commerce Department license to send syringes to Cuba. Together with the Saving Lives Campaign, The People’s Forum and others, we are trying to quickly raise $100,000 to send about 3 million syringes. When we raise more than that, we will help Cuba with other health-related needs!
Cuba is about 20 million syringes short of the 30 million it needs to vaccinate its population. Due to the embargo, it has had trouble importing medical supplies from vendors. The Trump administration made this situation worse by tightening sanctions during the pandemic, and Biden has done nothing to change this.
Despite these obstacles, Cuba has been one of the most successful countries at combating Covid-19. There are plans to start vaccinating the entire population of 11.3 million people in June, after which Cuba will help vaccinate people around the world.
Cuba helps the world. Now it’s time to help Cuba. Support the campaign to break the U.S. blockade and send syringes to the people of Cuba!
By supporting this campaign, those of us in the U.S. will show the Cuban people that we abhor what the U.S. government is doing. At CODEPINK, we continue to fight for an end to the U.S. embargo and full normalization of relations. We’re also supporting a call to award the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade.
In radical solidarity,
The entire CODEPINK team
P.S. Every year, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly approves a draft resolution to end the embargo imposed by the U.S. on Cuba. Every year, the U.S. ignores the world and continues its cruel policy of punishing the Cuban people. Sign the petition demanding that President Biden have the U.S. abstain at the June 23 UN vote! Tell him to announce his intentions to normalize relations and lift the blockade!
