The people of Peru are still protesting against the parliamentary coup that took place on December 7th, ousting democratically elected President Pedro Castillo. As the coup enters its seventh month, a new wave of coordinated actions is taking place across the country, with Peruvians organizing a third Takeover of Lima on July 19.
In June, the Peruvian Congress with only 6% popular approval, authorized the entry of more than 1000 U.S. troops to train armed forces and the police. The Peruvian coup government, supported by conservative political parties and the business establishment, has announced plans to privatize lithium mining, reversing President Castillo's previous efforts to nationalize processing. U.S. troops will likely be involved in these efforts
We support the protesters' demands:
- Resign Dina Boluarte
- Closure of Congress
- U.S. troops out of Peru
- Justice for the victims
- Reinstatement of President Pedro Castillo
- Creation of a constituent assembly for a new constitution
