Celebrating the Wonderful Life of the Pacific Ocean

Join CODEPINK and other climate activists September 16 @ 5:00-8:00 PM PST at Santa Monica Beach, there will be a public Wake for the Ocean, which will be a beautiful demonstration by organizations, celebrity activists, and citizens focused on ocean health, peace-building, and indigenous voices for the planet. In ceremony for the ocean, there will be music, speeches, and performances to honor this connective body of water.

At 7:00 PM PST (or sundown) the event will transition to a candlelight vigil in honor of the ocean and the lives dedicated to its protection, hosted by Friends of the Earth and Global Candlelight Action. Following the event will be dinner and a meet-and-greet with several organizations and climate ambassadors.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about our nested relationships with nature and each other, and to highlight the care that these communities have for the connective body of water between us all. The themes for this event will be alternative visions for current issues in the world with regards to ocean pollution, extraction, and wars; we will be focusing on the peoples' voices that have solutions for a better planet.
