For years, hardliners have used the status of women's rights in Iran to justify further sanctions, failing to rejoin the Iran Nuclear Deal, and more warmongering! Now, Israel is attacking Iran and we are on the brink of the US entering another forever war. A clear path to peace is obvious: end the genocide in Gaza and prioritize diplomacy with Iran. If leaders around the world care about women's rights, they would stop funding wars that destroy the lives of women everywhere. Diplomacy now!
Dear President Biden,
We, the undersigned, are writing to you to demand the US prioritize diplomacy and not join a war against Iran. With Israel’s attack on Iran, the looming threat of a world war and nuclear winter is as close as it’s ever been. Any escalation between Israel, the US, and Iran will lead to thousands of lives lost and enter the United States into another forever war. It does not need to be this way, a path forward has been clear since October 8th 2023: a comprehensive ceasefire and an end to the occupation of Palestine.
A majority of Americans support a ceasefire in Gaza and arms embargo on Israel. For the last twenty years, the American people saw troops and money sent abroad for wars they did not consent to – that Congress did not authorize. Already, the your administration sent thousands of troops to the middle east – we demand de-escalation by bringing them home!
There was a period of peace between Iran and the United States marked by the Iran Nuclear Deal – we know that peace between our two countries is possible. Since the United States left the deal in 2018, tension has only grown and Israel’s escalation is bringing the United States to the brink of all out war. Any further escalation with Iran by the United States will make it clear to the American people that our leaders are more loyal to the Israeli regime than its own people.
In the aftermath of the murder of Mahsa Amini, we saw the use of the status of women's rights in Iran to bury the Iran Nuclear Deal. Since then, the United States has only placed more sanctions on Iran, suffocating their economy and harming the women you claim to care about. We demand the US lift the brutal sanctions that harm millions of Iranian women every day -- as an olive branch towards peace.
As we inch closer to World War 3 or a nuclear altercation, we implore you to settle this at the negotiating table. Bring the troops home and stop sending weapons that fuel the fire.
