Poetry Round Table | Culture & Community in the Local Peace Economy

LPE 07.22

Culture is a powerful took in the pathways we are taking toward a peace economy. Culture is what binds us together. The war economy attempts to extract us from our unique cultures as a way to create a monoculture based on consumerism, transactional relationships, isolation, and fear. Every act of cultural meaning that we participate in is a resistance to this accelerating tide.

This Local Peace Economy gathering will be focused on reading and sharing poetry. Through poetry, we experience emotional openness that is at the heart of community-building.  We will be welcoming the poet Joy Johnson who has been creating a poetry series based on the Local Peace Economy pivots. Her project is currently being published on the LPE Substack, Cultivating a Local Peace Economy. We will be discussing her poems and inviting others to read aloud their favorites or poems they've written themselves.

When we pause and tend to this way of being and sharing with others in our community, we experience how much our collective understanding of the world is shared through words of beauty, consolation, and the exploration of the ineffable.
