We live inside the war economy. It is the water we swim in, accepted by most people as normal and natural. What we consider to be "reality" is, in large part, based on agreements made by people whose interests lie principally in profit, destruction, and domination while coating a thin veneer of civility over their actions and claiming that "is just the way things are."
The Local Peace Economy serves life. It is those of us dedicated to living from a different set of values and an understanding that for peace, for a future that serves life, our actions matter. How we live our lives matters. And in order to understand what matters, we must come to an understanding outside the agreed upon stories of the dominant culture.
The war economy's web of deceit lies in the absence of information, the omission of critical truths, and deception. What aren't we being told? What can't we see? How do we stay clear of the slippery slope that wants to own and control us everyday? We are all human and susceptible to its siren song. We need each other to stay liberated in order to create a future together.
