Join CODEPINK LA at a book signing and community conversation with the author of Freedom on Trial at the Harriet Tubman Center on Saturday, August 29, at 6:30 PM!
This event, organized by members of multiple organizations and taking place at the Harriet Tubman Center, will consist of a presentation by Michel Shehadeh — a member of the L.A. Eight and the author of the book Freedom on Trial — followed by a panel discussion and a book signing by the author. There will be speakers from Community Self-Defense Coalition, Black Youth Alliance, and Students for Justice in Palestine. Food will be available for purchase, as will copies of the book Freedom on Trial.
Organizations involved include: The Harriet Tubman Center for Social Justice, Al-Awda, JVP Los Angeles, Entertainment Labor 4 Palestine, We Are All Gaza; We Are All Palestine, Palestinian Christians for Justice, Alenteshar Newspaper, Justice 4 Palestine Campaign — LA, Catholics for Palestine, Midnight Books, Community Self-Defense Coalition, Union of Palestinian American Women, Culver City Residents for Peace, Stop LAPD Spying, and CODEPINK LA.
We will be discussing free speech, the right to dissent, the marginalization of the Palestinian narrative in America, deportation as a tool to silence political expression, and why the story of the L.A. Eight still matters today.
