Remember when representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez took hold of our feminism, not militarism banner and drove home our message that you can’t honor and protect women and the planet while waging wars and regime-change operations around the world? AOC’s leadership on the Green New Deal and her dedication to feminist values has been so inspirational to us that we are taking our own work for peace to the next level. With your help, we will deliver a feminist foreign policy agenda to the next U.S. President and NATO.
We are only one week away from #GivingTuesday, and a generous donor has offered to match all pledges to CODEPINK. If you donate right now your donation will be doubled, helping us create the first-ever feminist foreign policy agenda. Donate $150 or more and you will get a free CODEPINK t-shirt, tote bag, or glass water bottle.
Tomorrow as we gather to enjoy our friends and family for Thanksgiving, we also hold in our minds that the holiday is based on the whitewashing of America's horrific history of land theft, white settler-colonialism, and genocide. As our own Michelle Maria explains in this fantastic CODEPINK video, "primitive accumulation of capital through slave trafficking, piracy, and the like generated the resources for the first capitalist enterprises. It also entailed the seizure of land from the indigenous population, which continues to this very day... Just like 500 years ago, indigenous communities of today are resisting, not only the intrusion of capitalist enterprises into their territory that destroys their resources, life cycle, living spaces, and culture but also resisting the military that is deployed at the service of transnational capital."
We at CODEPINK are committed to upholding the rights of indigenous peoples — from Bolivia to Palestine and beyond — and defeating militarism. These missions kept us busy throughout 2019 and we are planning to be even more effective in 2020. Check out what we accomplished over the last eleven months to get an idea of what will be shaping the feminist foreign policy agenda we will soon be bringing to Washington, D.C. We’re excited to bring a feminist vision for foreign policy to the White House, but we need your help!
Week four of Jane Fonda’s climate actions — Fire Drill Fridays — shined a light on the cost of war to the planet. Jane Fonda reminded us that “The climate movement is a peace movement because to stop wars is to stop the fossil fuel industry and to stop the fossil fuel industry is to stop war.” Such collective wisdom creates the kind of strong policy we need. So, along with supporting the Green New Deal, with your help, we will be delivering a feminist foreign policy agenda to the next president of the U.S. and NATO. Make a donation now and what you give will be doubled.
