For several months, neighbors and friends in IL-5 have been demanding our Representative, Mike Quigley begin refusing campaign donations from companies that make a killing on killing. We have done weeks of neighborhood canvases and believe it is time to escalate.
On May 16th we will begin sustained direct actions outside of his office at 3223 N Sheffield Ave from 9-10AM every week day morning to demand he sign the CODEPINK pledge to refuse campaign donations from weapons companies.
We are choosing this tactic because it has worked before. After three weeks of sustained action, Mike Quigley signed on to Medicare for All to meet our requests just one year ago. We believe this will take longer, but we believe it is winnable.
Our goals outside of the pledge is to raise awareness about how much of our money goes directly to these companies through Pentagon budgets and arms sales. It is time to reinvest our money into US. Mike Quigley must stop using our tax dollars to enrich war profiteers. These direct actions have the goal of doing our small part to take on the war economy and build an economy around care and human need.
