Pressure the Biden Administration to take action! |
Hey, the Biden administration has a question for you.
Should private military contractors have to report their massive greenhouse gas emissions and meet targets to mitigate climate change, saving countless lives and ecosystems the world over?
Or should they… not do that?
The Biden administration wants to know what you think. And even though the answer is painfully obvious, let’s send them a resounding YES to this crucial proposal.
Tell Biden to Hold Military Contractors Accountable!
Now open for public comment, the new Biden administration rule would force the most-funded government contractors — which includes the usual suspects over at Lockheed Martin and Raytheon — to finally show some real climate accountability for their deadly businesses. Now is the time to make our voices heard – especially because the government is about to spend over $400 billion of our tax dollars funding these super-emitting companies instead of climate solutions!
But wait, there’s more! Under this rule, major contractors would have to report their "Scope 3" emissions – meaning the weapons and jets used by the US military could FINALLY have their emissions counted and regulated!
This would be a major win for the peace and climate movements, since the US Department of “Defense” is the planet’s BIGGEST institutional emitter of fossil fuels. Studies have shown that reducing military emissions this way is a necessary step in averting the worst climate tipping points in the next twenty years. With your help, we can close a major loophole in emissions reporting, and forge an actual pathway towards national, and global, security.
Because of you, CODEPINK has gone to the UN climate conference to help make major progress in the fight to start reigning in military emissions. This is another perfect opportunity to claim a win for the climate and peace!
We know the military-industrial complex is going to fight this rule tooth and nail. Public comment closes on February 13th, so we don't have a moment to lose. Can we count on you to help us fight back against war profiteers?
Together, we can work to decarbonize, demilitarize, and ensure a prosperous future for us all.
Towards peace and a livable planet,
Teddy, CODEPINK
