Join CODEPINK as we stand up for a free Palestine at the LA Times Festival of Book. Jose Andres of World Central Kitchen will be speaking at 12:30 at Bovard Auditorium (USC). We will be outside leading up to his talk and then will leave once it begins.
We are also protesting the cowardly decision of USC to deny Asna Tabassum, University of Southern California’s 2024 valedictorian, her chance to give a speech at commencement over security concerns.
Tabassum – a “first-generation South Asian-American Muslim,” according to a statement she released via the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Los Angeles – would have delivered her speech at the graduation ceremony on May 10.
“I am both shocked by this decision and profoundly disappointed that the University is succumbing to a campaign of hate meant to silence my voice,” Tabassum said in the online statement. “I am not surprised by those who attempt to propagate hatred. I am surprised that my own university – my home for four years – has abandoned me.”
We are calling on USC to resinstate Asna as the graduation speaker!
Bring a print out of your favorite Palestine book cover as large as you can print out and mounted on a piece of cardboard. We will also do a procession of Books for Peace in Palestine
Don't forget to wear pink!
