A Capital Eye newsletter report of August 27—the informational arm of OpenSecrets.Org—tracked a Visa and US Bank joint reception in Denver for freshman members of the House of Representatives, which skirted new ethics lawslimiting fundraisers held for one honoree by honoring, well, everyone.
Six congressional newbies have already received money from Visa, and five from US Bank. "Overall," the article notes, "finance/credit companies have given this class of lawmakers $200,700, while commercial banks have contributed $677,500."
Boycotts, apparently successful, were called to urge the new members of Congress to spend their evenings elsewhere; nonetheless the CEOs of both financial companies proceeded to party.
