Ahed Tamimi is a 17-year-old Palestinian prisoner. She was arrested by the Israeli army on December 19, 2017 after she slapped an armed soldier trying to invade the yard of her home. Ahed was taken from her bed in the middle of the night, interrogated, held without bail and indicted on 12 charges. She was facing up to 10 years in prison.
On March 21, 2018 Ahed agreed to a plea bargain with the military court for an 8 month long prison sentence.
Though Ahed never should have been arrested or jailed in the first place, her plea bargain is a big success for her case. Israel had intended to exact a vicious revenge against Ahed for her refusal to cooperate with her occupiers. They planned to set an example for all successive Palestinian children to afraid to advocate for their freedom. But, thanks to massive grassroots mobilizations around the world in support of Ahed, Israel determined it would not be in their best interests to impose a lengthy sentence on Ahed.
Ahed has become a hero for millions in Palestine and abroad. Upon her release from Israeli prison, we will bring her and her family for a visit to the US to help further their work for freedom, justice and equality.
Sign up to help us bring Ahed and her family to the US next fall. We will need help getting members of congress to advocate for travel visas, help finding the most impactful venues for Ahed to speak at and more.
