We co-hosted this past Tuesday’s CODEPINK Congress Capitol Calling Party with MAPA’s Cole Harrison, and were joined by our brilliant guests Dr. Gerald Horne and Walden Bello. Dr. Gerald Horne is a history professor and the author of more than 30 books, addressing racism, labor, politics, civil rights, international relations, and war. Walden Bello is a Vice Presidential candidate in the Philippines, a former member of the Philippine Congress, and human rights and peace campaigner who focuses on militarism and corporate globalization.
Dr. Gerald Horne spoke about the global implications of the war in Ukraine and how they relate to the current sanctions on Russia, newly-forming national alliances, the global energy market, and the shifting role of NATO. Walden Bello, who is currently on the campaign trail, joined later in the call to discuss the response of many Global South countries to the invasion of Ukraine, ranging from condemnation to criticism of the U.S. and NATO’s role in provoking the invasion. Bello also discussed the double standard response of Western countries and media, highlighting the disparities between coverage of the Ukraine war versus the coverage of Israel’s ethnic cleansing in Palestine.
Horne and Bello powerfully analyzed the current crisis in Ukraine and its global implications - watch Tuesday’s full recording here now.
