On Tuesday, January 18, CODEPINK Congress, John Nichols of The Nation and David Dayen of The American Prospect joined CODEPINK Congress to share priorities for activists as Biden’s first year in office wraps up. John discussed the militarization of the Arctic, equitable and just vaccine distribution, and demands that journalists speak out to free Julian Assange. Dave Dayen discussed the Iran Nuclear Deal, and the importance of progressives keeping up the pressure on the Biden administration- “There needs to be energetic action,” he told us, because “the Iran Nuclear Deal CAN be saved, and it NEEDS to be saved.”
There’s plenty of change that Biden could make with just the stroke of a pen, but has not yet. Issues that are critical to our movement, such as closing Guantanamo Bay, ending arms sales to Saudi Arabia, and taking nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert are indeed possible - but we need to continue exerting pressure and making Biden feel our urgency.
