American Doctor follows three physician friends—a Palestinian, a Jewish American, and a Zoroastrian—united by their oath to save lives. From a besieged hospital in Gaza to the halls of Congress, Dr. Thaer Ahmad, Dr. Mark Perlmutter, and Dr. Feroze Sidhwa fight to honor a promise to their Palestinian colleagues and patients: continuing the struggle.
CODEPINK is partnering with Watermelon Pictures in outreach for this film because it directly correlates with our campaign against the American Medical Association (AMA). The institutionalization of healthcare in the U.S. has caused a deep disregard for healthcare workers across the world by their American colleagues. Palestinian healthcare workers have been killed, besieged, and imprisoned by Israel for practicing medicine, and organizations like the AMA have remained silent.
It is important to bolster films like American Doctor to show the world that the disparities in healthcare that exist in places like Palestine are intentional by the oppressor, and their American counterparts that turn a blind eye are complicit in genocide and war crimes.
