Following the anti-war rally at 12 p.m. today at the State Capitol, CODEPINK members will gather in Cass Gilbert Park behind the capitol with reverent, beautiful, enormous puppets (one requires five people to move) and organize the vibrant, uplifting "Pro-Life, Pro-Democracy" parade to begin at 1:30 p.m. onward to the Xcel Center.
Some women will be wearing costumes from pink police uniforms to "I Miss America" pageant formal wear, while the rest will carry the puppets, huge women with crowns reading "I Miss Liberty" and "I Miss Justice" made of fabric, wood and recycled materials (watch this Star-Tribune video of CODEPINK members building the puppets at Minneapolis' famous Heart of the Beast puppet theater here).
The purpose of the parade is to celebrate life-affirming, rather than life-destroying, systems, to inspire hope and peace in a non-partisan, and to stand in solidarity with the people of the Gulf Coast and support rebuilding there. We will urge America to "end the war, rebuild the Gulf."
