Send Biden a clear message: NO GUAIDÓ 2.0!
The Biden administration is following the Trump administration’s playbook — again. They just announced they are recognizing Edmundo Gonzalez as President of Venezuela in defiance of Venezuela’s institutions, which are currently auditing the election. This is exactly what Trump did in 2019 by recognizing an unelected opposition figure, Juan Guaidó, as president, and it turned out to be a disaster.
Send Biden a clear message: NO GUAIDÓ 2.0!
Dear President Biden,
We call on your administration to respect Venezuela's sovereignty and avoid repeating the disastrous "Guaidó 2.0" scenario. The Venezuelan people have faced significant turmoil, and their political challenges must be resolved by their own hands, free from external interference.
The aftermath of the 2019 crisis, when Juan Guaidó declared himself interim president and contested Nicolás Maduro’s legitimacy, is a stark reminder of the instability that such interventions can cause. The U.S. and several Western nations’ support for Guaidó only deepened Venezuela’s political and economic turmoil, strained international relationships, and exacerbated divisions within the country.
The Venezuelan electoral system, though complex, is designed to ensure transparency and security. The process includes multi-step verification, random audits, and stringent oversight. While the recent elections on July 28 revealed conflicting results between the CNE and opposition claims, it is crucial to rely on verified data and independent corroboration rather than self-proclaimed victories. The opposition’s tally sheets lack verification and credibility, much like the false claims made in other democratic contexts.
Historical figures reveal a consistent chavista electorate and raise questions about the opposition’s claims of a massive vote swing without substantial proof.
We urge your administration to reject any attempts to impose a "Guaidó 2.0" and to respect Venezuela’s democratic process. The U.S. must cease its interference and avoid repeating past mistakes that only serve to undermine Venezuelan democracy and exacerbate economic hardships.
