Release Julian Assange

Founded in 2006 by Julian Assange, Wikileaks offers journalist and others an anonymous, secure online submission system to reveal war crimes, the inner workings of governments, human rights abuses, corporate crimes, and much more. It is one of the most important tools for journalists and whistleblowers, Assange has been one of the most important figures protecting the right to freedom of speech and press.

Thanks to Julian Assange:

  • WikiLeaks documents have informed the public about U.S. war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, and more.
  • WikiLeaks documents have released tens of thousands of articles and academic papers.
  • WikiLeaks releases have been used in numerous court cases where human rights defenders have been on trial.
  • Julian Assange’s only “crime” is that of exposing crimes the U.S. government hoped to keep the world from knowing. Rather than being extradited to the U.S to be tried and imprisoned, he must be released immediately by the U.K. and ensured safe passage home to Australia.

Petition

To the Government of the UK,

We, the undersigned, are firmly opposed to the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States, where he is facing 18 charges under the Espionage Act and could be sentenced to up to 175 years in prison.

Assange’s alleged crimes date back to 2010, when the organization he founded, WikiLeaks, transmitted documents to media outlets including Le Monde, The Guardian and The New York Times. The documents, which were provided to WikiLeaks by whistleblower Chelsea Manning, included 250,000 US diplomatic cables and US army reports about military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, exposed cases of torture, abduction and disappearances.

The publication of these documents by media outlets was clearly in the public interest, and not an act of espionage. Julian Assange’s contribution to journalism is undeniable.

If the legal persecution of Assange continues, investigative journalism and press freedom will be the victims, since news organizations regularly rely on and publish classified information to serve the public interest.

We are also concerned about Assange’s health. UN special rapporteur Nils Melzer reported that Assange had been deliberately exposed to inhuman and degrading treatment that could be described as psychological torture.

We urge you to respect the principles of freedom of expression and the defence of journalism, and to respect Assange’s human rights. Rather than being extradited to the U.S to be tried and imprisoned, we urge you to release Assange immediately and ensure his safe passage home to Australia.

Journalism in its professional form is whistleblowing; actually simple reporting of truth is protected by US Constitution 1st Amendment. Detaining Julian Assange even for one minute by proxy is a crime in International Law. Prosecution of a foreigner, non-US citizen is an anomaly and calling his professional integrity as a reporter treason is non-sequitor, absurd. Forced globalism by extradition treaties is likewise an abomination inflicted on the very idea of democracy and freedom of individual citizens of the world. The American ideal as expressed in the US Constitution is that the State exists to protect the freedom of its citizens; the citizens are not subordinate to the freedom of the State. There is no free State without unequivocal freedom for the individual of all race, age and sex. Joe Biden must be asked by Progressive and Peace movements to commit to the pardon of Julian Assange of face the loss of our collective support in this 2020 election. Warmonger Joe has an old and tired acceptence of any and all war, perpetual war for perpetual ’’peace’’. He needs to be called to account before gaining any Progressive support. Trump is plenty odious, but he is the first President to avoid new wars since Jimmy Carter! We must not deny credit where credit is due or we discoutrage actions that are positive, even if they are rare and limited to foreign policy. Foreign wars come home to our streets, not only in form of 1033, but in policy, attitude and loss of privacy. President Obama & VP Biden presided over proxy invasion of Yemen, preceeded by arming of Saudi butcher of human flesh, Salman. His State Dept. under Hillary Clinton created failed state of Libya out of Africa’s nation with highest standard of living. Trump has repudiated neocon warmonger, John Bolton and Victoria Nuland, Elliott Abrams and the other ‘crazies in the basement’. Will Biden agree to address one word about foreign policy? Why is there no outcry about this taboo to address unspeakable USA State Department policy? Biden must be called on the rug to stand and deliver his epiphany to a peace commitment.

Proof positive that Ukraine Maidan was a western color revolution destabilization: https://www.jta.org/2014/02/28/global/in-kiev-an-israeli-militia-commander-fights-in-the-streets-and-saves-lives Joe and Hunter Biden were carpetbaggers following western coup on Kiev Maidan, sucking oil and gas. Never Biden and concommitant return to Obama/Clinton dynasty.

Thank you for providing a much needed forum. I have been blackballed from FaceBook.

Enough is enough. The government is trying to hurt another instead of securing their equipment. Out of all secure systems in the world I am not sure why the US Gov’s equipment is so easy to access.
