Tell Congress No $54 Billion for War!

To Congress,

We urge you to oppose a budget that increases military spending. The massive increases in Pentagon spending being proposed would come at the expense of foreign aid, the Environmental Protection Agency, the US State Department, and more. We need schools, health care, green jobs, and diplomacy, not more tanks, warships, and nuclear weapons!

Our national foreign policy of covert imperialism since WW II has been an abysmal, epic failure and it is the height of hubris and hypocrisy that we continue to escalate spending on our failing military efforts while cutting our diplomacy, as well as much needed domestic programs. We are on the road to becoming the first hugely wealthy Third World nation, which a massive, useless military.

No more funding for war! This country needs to start negotiating for peace, stay out of other sovereign nations’ affairs, and start rebuilding our own country by supporting the needs of the American people.

Since way before the hammer and toilet seat price flap, there has been absolutely tremendous fraud, waste and abuse in the Pentagon. Stem that, and you get more effective use of war-making dollars and not at the expense of vital domestic programs.

We have become the military merchants of the world .. no longer the shining city on the hill. Shame on us. We, as Americans, can do better .. we owe it to ourselves AND to the world.

We need to spend money on our public schools, veterans, our collapsing infrastructure,, the crisis our Environment faces, jobs, and much more. The US already spend far far too much on our military. Say NO to an increase n military spending !

I am a nuclear veteran (Redwing, Marshall Islands, 1956) and have seen what you are pushing the world toward, too up close and personal. I survived my exposure, many didn’t. I realize that wars bring the greatest profits in history, but even trillionaires will eventually die from radiation, or hunger if the crops fail in a nuclear winter.

The only thing that makes sense is PEACE. Close the thousand odd offshore bases, cut our bloated Wehrmacht down to a legitimate defense force. Quit telling the world to do what we say, believe what we believe, or live under drones, missiles and kicked in doors and machine gun fire. Use the money saved to rebuild this nation and those we have damaged or destroyed this century for a start. The list goes way back.

We used to be a nation that all countries looked up to. Now, we are just butchers, turning the world into an abattoir for the increased wealth of a very few individuals who want it all. To them, this is just a game and We the People don’t even count.

We know that spending on health and education is an investment in a good future. Spending on war brings more violence, generation after generation. It is obvious what we need to do if we want peace and happiness.

Americans who know we spend more than the next 8 Big Military Spenders cannot possibly want that to continue. With this money we could fund mass rapid transit expansion in Metro AtL and other cities, thereby reduce air pollution and asthma in metro areas, could subsidize solar industry in our home state of Georgia, and all over the Sunny South, could massively underwrite Medicare for all, could greatly improve public education etc etc. Trump said he would wind down our military adventuring in the Middle EAst. Tell the President this deal is a very bad deal for America.
