The gift of empathy.

Artists, singers. Songwriters, poets and storytellers give the gift of empathy when they share with us what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes.

Keeping an open heart, listening and imagining ourselves as the person that we may have some judgment about; opens us to compassion and love in action.

As a result that person, group or community now has an ally, when before we were just one more person separating ourselves from them. To be connected instead of separated is the capacity to be related. Empathy is totally missing from the war economy and the core of the peace economy.

Today, observe the places, people or situations in your day that could use your empathetic heart and do what you can to engage with love and respect. This is a gift that connects and opens. The gift of empathy is building a world where people support one another because they care.

Engage with friends, family, or someone whose path connects to yours today and offer the gift of your empathy. Talk to your friends and family about what it means for them. How much more could empathy be employed to create the world you want to see?
