The U.S. enforces its violent empire by maintaining almost 800 military bases around the world. Each one contaminates the soil. Occupies land. Each base contributes to the U.S. military project’s status as one of the biggest polluters in the world, as it unleashes over a billion metric tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. As it destroys the built and natural environment wherever its boots touch the ground.
But this information is buried. Mainstream environmental organizations don’t discuss it, and instead, they work together with military contractors. Just like cigarette companies hid the reality of their deadly impacts, the U.S. government hides how our tax dollars are going to advance the climate crisis threatening the existence of all life on earth. And it does this by using these environmentally devastating materials to murder and occupy the homes of millions around the world.
Pacific island nations are currently testifying at the World Court on the responsibility of nations in the climate crisis in accordance with International Human Rights Law. Our needless expansion into the Pacific for a new Cold War with China has devastated the region and contributed to the Pentagon’s global climate destruction. Our military expansion is threatening the existence of the very islands we unjustly “strategically” occupy.
Tell the USINDOPACOM that the Pacific Needs to Survive! Close our Bases!
