**Update: Senators Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Kirsten Gillibrand, and candidates Beto O'Rourke, Julian Castro, Pete Buttigieg, and Jay Inslee have all announced they will not be attending AIPAC either**
The AIPAC convention is a celebration of the most repressive elements of the Israeli state, featuring those most engaged in curtailing Palestine freedom. This year is no exception and the conference is struggling to mask it’s true nature. In 2016, Bernie Sanders skipped the AIPAC conference and in 2020, Elizabeth Warren has announced she would not attend AIPAC. The tide is turning as more and more progressives distance themselves from Israel’s brutal regime of occupation.
Not only has AIPAC’s headlining speaker Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed an alliance with an Israeli political party so extreme they are referred to as the Jewish KKK. Last month, he also confirmed the systemic racism that exists in Israel when he commented that, “Israel is not a state of all its citizens. It’s the nation-state of the Jewish people — and them alone.”
This year, for the first time, AIPAC will host as a speaker a representative from an illegal settlement, Oded Revivi, the Mayor of the illegal settlement of Efrat. The growing, Jewish-only settlement of Efrat was built on the lands of several surrounding Palestinian villages in the southern West Bank. Settlements are illegal under international law and considered a major obstacle to peace.
Palestinians deserve freedom and equality. AIPAC is the annual variety show of the most blatantly racist and repressive elements of the Israeli state that are actively violating Palestinian human rights.
Join us in telling the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates Corey Booker, Amy Klobuchar, and Tulsi Gabbard to join the avalanche of 2020 candidates announcing they will skip the AIPAC conference.
