Save The Date: Cornel West To Headline Peace In Ukraine event in DC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 14, 2023

MEDIA ADVISORY: Cornel West To Headline D.C. Forum: The Urgency of Pursuing Peace in Ukraine As Part of Global Days of Action

Washington, DC - On October 3, CODEPINK and its partners will host an event featuring Cornel West, Claudia de la Cruz, Medea Benjamin, and Eugene Puryear. The event, co-sponsored by various peace organizations, aims to educate, inspire, and mobilize people to take action towards ending the conflict in Ukraine. This event is one of many included in call for a "Global Mobilization the week of September 30 - October 8 for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations," by an international coalition of peace groups.

This evening forum will serve as a call to action for those who are concerned about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. According to CNN's recent poll, 55% of people in the United States do not support spending more money on the Ukraine war. Yet, the White House responded by requesting another $24 billion, mostly for weapons and military training, to prolong the war and suffering in Ukraine. By coming together and demanding change, they believe that it is possible to create a more peaceful world.

WHAT: The Urgency of Pursuing Peace in Ukraine with Keynote Speaker Cornel West public forum.

WHO: Speakers include Cornel West, Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary; Claudia de la Cruz, Co-Executive Director of The People's Forum; Lee Camp, American comedian, writer, podcaster, news journalist; Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CODEPINK and Global Exchange; and Eugene Puryear, American journalist, activist, and host on Breakthrough News.

WHEN: October 3 from 7-8:30pm EST

WHERE: True Reformer Building 1200 U St NW, Washington, DC 20009

The event is open to the public and is expected to draw a large crowd. All media wishing access to cover the event must register. Please register here.

Background on Global Days of Action:

The International Summit for Peace in Ukraine (ISP) was held in Vienna on June 10 -11. Over 330 people from 32 countries on 6 continents attended. The declaration from organizers called on "leaders in all countries to act in support of an immediate ceasefire and negotiations to end the war in Ukraine." It ended with a call for a "Global Mobilization the week of September 30 - October 8 for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations" to stop the killing.
