On January 9, 2020, the House passed their war powers resolution and this week it is the Senate’s turn. The vote will happen soon. Contact your Senators now and tell them to vote for Sen. Kaine’s war powers resolution! Ensure that trump can not take any further military actions against Iran without congressional approval.

Fill out the form below to send an email to your senators — overseas supporters can scroll down to sign the petition below.

It is also important that you call your senators. You can do so via the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 using the following script:

Hello. My name is _____ and I’m a constituent from (city and state). I’m calling to urge Senator _____ to vote YES on the Iran War Powers Resolution to prevent the President from launching an unauthorized war against Iran. I am strongly opposed to a U.S. war with Iran. War is not the answer to the challenges we face. Diplomacy is the only solution. Thanks for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing why Senator ____ will or will not support my request.

Don't forget to sign up for the January 25 NO WAR WITH IRAN International Day of Action. We will help you find a protest near you or organize your own protest, take action on social media, and more.

Overseas supporters can sign this petition:

Dear U.S. Congress,

This is urgent and dire. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to stop Trump from going to war against Iran, a war that could be even more disastrous than the U.S. war with Iraq. I need you to vote YES on the privileged War Powers resolutions introduced by Representative Slotkin in the House and Senator Tim Kaine in the Senate to mandate that without congressional authorization, the Trump Administration’s military actions targeting Iran must cease within 30 days. We need veto-proof votes.

Additionally, the House should introduce an Iraq War Powers Resolution to stop further U.S. military participation in these escalating events on Iraqi soil and vote to repeal the 2002 Iraq Authorization for the Use of Military Force. The U.S. should abide by the recent vote of Iraq’s parliament to remove all U.S. troops from the country.

The assassination of General Qasem Soleimani—a man who had a popularity rating in Iran of over 80% because of his successful fight against ISIS—and U.S. airstrikes in Iraq before that brought us to the brink of war. The blame for the present crisis rests squarely on the doorstep of the White House. The Trump administration’s reckless decision to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and revert to the U.S. policy of threats and sanctions is backfiring—as predicted. The American people have made clear in poll after poll that they do not want to be dragged into another war in the Middle East. Please act now as the voice of the people to stop the U.S. from going to war with Iran.

“That could bring total emissions to nearly one billion tons, equivalent to the greenhouse gas output from more than 218 large coal-fired power plants operating around the clock at full capacity,” the report continues, noting that the estimates “likely understate emissions growth from the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors.”

    GHG emissions

Aided by both the Obama and Trump administrations, the expansion of the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries in the United States continues despite repeated and increasingly urgent warnings from experts that the U.S. fracking boom is threathening ecosystems and making people sick.

Trump’s actions to push into war are part of his political agenda to not allow the American people the time & money needed to vote for our next President. He knows he is in danger of losing. We need to stay focused on our internal problems, such as creating fair & healthy regulations for border control, dealing with our health care crisis & infrastructure crumbling. We certainly need to seriously address taking our foot off the petal toward climate change. We need to do all we can to stop contributing to the planet heating up.

Please do not allow our resources, & emotional health to be tied up in this unjust war. Thank you.
