TELL CONGRESS TO STOP TRUMP FROM GOING TO WAR WITH IRAN

On January 2, 2020, the Trump administration ordered the assassination of the second most important person in Iran, General Qassim Soleimani. This was the culmination of increasingly reckless U.S. behavior against Iran, beginning with Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran Nuclear Deal. The assassination of Soleimani violated U.S. law since it was carried out without congressional approval.

We are now on the brink of a disastrous all-out war in the Middle East. The House will vote on Thursday, January 30 on Rep. Khanna’s bill H.R.5543 to prohibit funding for the U.S. to carry out military actions against Iran without prior congressional authorization and Barbara Lee’s bill to repeal the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF).

Fill out this form to contact your rep and tell them you want them to vote YES!

Dear U.S. Congress,

This is urgent and dire. I am writing to you to ask you to ask you to stop Trump from going to war with Iran. A war with Iran that would likely be worse than the disastrous U.S. war with Iraq was. This is dangerous and you must act now by VOTING YES on Rep. Khanna’s bill, H.R.5543, to prohibit funding for the U.S. to carry out military actions against Iran without prior congressional authorization as well as Barbara Lee’s bill to repeal the 2002 AUMF when they come to a vote on Thursday, January 30, 2020.

The assassination of General Qassim Soleimani—a man who had a popularity rating in Iran of over 80% because of his successful fight against ISIS- and U.S. airstrikes in Iraq before that have brought us to the brink of war. Thousands of additional US troops have been deployed to the Middle East and the U.S. is insisting on remaining in Iraq despite a clear message from the Iraqi people that they want us to leave. Poll after poll in the U.S. states clearly that the American people do not want to be dragged into another war in the Middle East.

The blame for the present crisis rests squarely on the doorstep of the White House. The Trump administration’s reckless decision to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and revert to the U.S. policy of threats and sanctions is backfiring—as predicted.

As your constituent, I am asking you to vote yes on H.R.5543 to prohibit funding for the U.S. to carry out military actions against Iran without prior congressional authorization as well as Barbara Lee’s bill to repeal the 2002 AUMF

Sincerely,

The assassination of General Soleimani was condemned by the UN as illegitim and a violation of interational law. So there is no justification for the use of military force against Iran. According to international law, Iran has the right to defend against the aggression by US forces. There is no justification according to US law for an attack on Iran, because the conflict was started by an action of the US president.

American “leaders”, start acting the way our forefathers created our government for in the first place and protect us from enemies domestic (and those foreign ones that actually attack us in our country- not in a space you carved out in YOUR enemies countries and regions). And while you’re at it, just stop starting conflicts with ANY country for any reason and put your hand out in peace and love. That’s what my parents taught me. Finally, start spending our tax money on education and helping our countrymen and women realize their potential, while in health health.

After all, what other reason are you there for?

This is total madness … allowing trump to continue his attack on Iran.

Congress, especially those from California, must put an end to this madness.

If Iran had assassinated Mr Pompeo in an airport in, say London, or Paris, what would Mr Trump’s reaction be, especially if Iran had the audacity to threaten us with extreme punitive measures if we retaliated?

Iran has been intentionally goaded into action to justify war by a President using it as a distraction from his impeachment. We cannot let men and women on both sides die for this.
