Washington Post: don't allow hate and Islamophobia in your paper

IMG_9659.jpgOn Sunday March 24, 2019 edition of the Washington Post included a deplorable full-page ad falsely accusing Representative Ilhan Omar of anti-semitism. It intentionally misleads readers to believe Rep. Omar made statements she never uttered.

Send a message now to the Washington Post telling them that as a leading U.S. newspaper, they have an obligation not to participate in smear campaigns and incitements to hatred and Islamophobia. Ask the Washington Post to apologize to Rep. Omar and the Muslim community and commit to not selling misleading and hateful ads.

Dear Washington Post:

I was extremely dismayed to see you print Rabbi Shmuley’s misleading and Islamophobic ad smearing Representative Ilhan Omar and inciting hatred against Muslims.

The ad begins with the words “Jews control the world with their money” next to Rep. Omar’s face, giving the false impression she said that. She did not.

Spreading Islamophobia and hatred is dangerous. The New Zealand mosque massacre just took the lives of 50 people and Rep. Omar is already facing serious death threats. Printing this ad contributes to the dangers the congresswoman and the world Muslim community face.

Please apologize to Rep. Omar and the Muslim community and commit to no longer selling space in your paper for ads that propagate any form of hatred.

I’ve faced off racism in my life, and I understand the hidden nature it can take and how ugly it can be. Please, do not think that this is by any means an excuse for that behavior. The only way to stop it from taking root and growing is to recognize what it is and in doing that you must differentiate between actual racism vs legitimate criticism. There is a long standing stereotype of black women being ‘welfare queens’ and using the system to profit off of. To advance this stereotype is racism. However; if a group of black women were found selling their food stamps on Craigslist to make money unbeknownst to the govt, exposing them and calling them out on what they were doing would not be racism. As has recently been reported in a documentary; The Lobby – USA, about multiple lobbying groups (including AIPAC), these groups are doing exactly what Ilhan said. There are former employees of AIPAC, The Israel Project, The Israel American Council and others on tape stating things like ‘Congress doesn’t do anything unless you pressure them and the only way to do that is with money’. Eric Gallagher, a former director for AIPAC, was filmed undercover saying ‘Congress gets 3.1 billion a year for Israel. Everything AIPAC does is focused on influencing Congress. Congress is where you have leverage’. David Ochs worked with AIPAC in that his business brought together pro Israel supporters and Wall Street hedge fund managers at private AIPAC events, he was caught stating something to the effect of: ‘if one person only had $100 to contribute, and another has $5000, since the legal limit is $2600 per individual contribution; we make the arrangement so the person with $100 can give 2600 and the other 2500.’ (I’m paraphrasing) but it’s basically money laundering. AIPAC also actively pushed against an anti-bribary law, ultimately creating a loophole that allows charities to give lavish vacations (sometimes upwards of $20,000 worth), and the charity that contributed in AIPACs stead only exists on paper. These lobbying groups are caught on camera giving lectures to combat basically ANY opposition as anti-semitic, which simply leads to your claim losing it’s legitimacy, and unfortunately not being validated in circumstances where it actually IS warranted. It’s doubtful that you are unaware of the things that AIPAC has been involved in, since your paper was implicated in the documentary as well. Ilhan is calling out the truth. And regarding the dual loyalty issue; her statement didn’t call into question the loyalty of Jewish Americans, she stated she should not be expected to hold loyalty to a foreign country in order to serve Congress, and considering that one of AIPACs own former employees made it clear that everything they did was with the purpose of influencing Congress; she has a very legitimate reason for having that concern. It is a fact that Americans have lost their jobs and can be refused employment simply for not signing a statement that they wouldn’t boycott Israel. It’s not opinion that that is taking away a constitutional right of American citizens, and multiple states in this country have laws requiring this sort of ‘dual loyalty’ of their citizens; it’s not antisemetic to speak out against our constitutional rights being stripped, simply because we may not support actions of a particular nation.
