National Geographic: Drop Gal Gadot!
National Geographic is having Israeli actress Gal Gadot host their program, Impact, where episode 5 highlights the displacement of indigenous people. Gal Gadot served in the Israeli military as a combat trainer during Israel’s brutal 2006 war in Lebanon when indiscriminate Israeli airstrikes killed about 900 civilians. Clearly, Gal shouldn't be speaking on indigenous rights, as she directly took part in displacing Palestinians in Palestine. Tell National Geographic to stop working with her!
We, the undersigned, are asking that you drop actress Gal Gadot from National Geographic projects such as “IMPACT”. The fifth episode of the series, which is produced by Gadot, tells the story of an indigenous woman who is talking about displacement and climate change. Gal Gadot, by serving as a combat trainer in the Israeli military and then parlaying her service into a modeling career to whitewash Israeli war crimes, has directly participated in violence against indigenous people. She continues to be a vocal supporter of the Israeli military and Israel, which are continuing to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their land.
It is an insult that Gal Gadot should be hosting such a series that is supposes to “empower women” when she praises the army that harms and murders Palestinian women every day. However, the fifth episode was specifically upsetting. In 2014, while Israel was bombarding Palestinians in Gaza continuously, Gadot made a post saying: “I am sending my love and prayers to my fellow Israeli citizens. Especially to all the boys and girls who are risking their lives protecting my country against the horrific acts conducted by Hamas, who are hiding like cowards behind women and children...We shall overcome!!! Shabbat Shalom! #weareright #freegazafromhamas #stopterror #coexistance #loveidf”
Gadot proudly touts her service for the military and continues to show support for them and their actions. Just recently, the Isareli military killed over 200 indigenous Palestinians, almost half of them children by dropping bombs on Gaza. The Isareli military regularly raids Palestinian homes, arrests Palestinian children, facilitates the removal of Palestinians from their homes, and kills Palestinians. It is abhorrent that National Geographic would allow someone who supports a violent occupation of indigenous people in Palestine to host such a series.
We demand that National Geographic drop Gal Gadot from any future projects, including the final episode of IMPACT.
