Lionel Richie is one of the most beloved musical artists in the world. His music brings joy to millions but sadly, he has agreed to perform in Israel, ignoring that the Israel government and military are responsible for the oppression and dispossession of the Palestinian people. Please sign the petition asking Lionel Richie to cancel his September 12, 2019 performance in apartheid Israel.
Dear Lionel Richie,
We appeal to you to cancel your September 2019 concert in Tel Aviv.
Since March 30, 2018, Israel has massacred close to 300 Palestinians in Gaza, including children and members of the media clearly marked as press.
On Monday, July 22, 2019, demolition crews accompanied by hundreds of Israeli soldiers, destroyed over a dozen apartment buildings — the homes of 100 Palestinian families — in the village of Sur Baher, leaving the families homeless and traumatized, all for Israel to continue its racist demographic engineering to manufacture a Jewish majority in East Jerusalem.
Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem face daily humiliations and violence, including checkpoints, child imprisonment, a military court system, separate roads for Palestinians and Israelis, home demolitions and more. The separate and unequal system that Israel imposes on Palestinians is a daily nightmare.
Palestinians citizens of Israel — 20% of the Israeli population — face over 50 laws that systematically discriminate against them because of their religion and ethnicity. From Gaza to Israel, to the West Bank, it is apartheid.
If you choose to follow through with your performance in Tel Aviv, it will act as an endorsement of Israel’s brutal systems of military occupation and apartheid. Canceling your Tel Aviv concert, on the other hand, would send a strong message that Palestinians, like all people, deserve equal rights and freedom. You would be following in the footsteps of artists like Lauryn Hill, Lorde, Lana del Ray, and Roger Waters. Please act now for freedom, dignity, and equality for all in Israel/Palestine. Please cancel your concert in Israel.
