On Wednesday May 3 CODEPINK members Desiree Fairooz, Tighe Barry, and Lenny Bianchi were found guilty of disorderly conduct for their presence in the confirmation hearing of Senator Jeff Sessions on January 10, 2017. The charge against Desiree Fariooz was brought on account of her emitting a reflexive gasp/laugh upon hearing Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) say Mr. Session's record of “treating all Americans equally under the law is clear and well-documented.”
It is absurd that Desiree is now facing 12 months in jail for her reasonable response to confirmed racist Jeff Sessions being portrayed as a champion of civil rights. In the past, charges like this would have been thrown out. But under President Trump nonviolent protestors are facing extreme repression, including by Trump's Justice Department.
