Koohan Paik-Mander is our Regeneration Manager.
Koohan has been involved for two decades in demilitarization and decolonization work, regenerative agriculture, and indigenous rights. She was one of the main crafters of the 2019 Green New Deal legislation for the Democratic Party of Hawaii, as well as an organizer of the 2019 Hawaii People's Congress: "Toward a Just Transition" with the Hawaii Alliance for Progressive Action. While at the International Forum on Globalization (IFG), she was a key organizer of the "Moana Nui" teach-ins in 2011 and 2013, which examined a number of dire challenges in Asia and Oceania, including cultural survival, ongoing militarism and colonialism, and environmental devastation. Her writing has appeared in Common Dreams, The Nation, AlterNet and the Progressive, and she is co-author (with Jerry Mander) of The Superferry Chronicles: Hawaii's Uprising Against Militarism, Commercialism and the Desecration of the Earth (2008). During the 20th century, she was an award-winning filmmaker, examining issues of climate, gender and the perils of digital technology.
