No US intervention in Venezuela

The U.S. is orchestrating a coup in Venezuela that is likely to lead to bloodshed — even civil war. Instead of meddling the internal affairs of another country, the U.S. should be supporting peaceful dialogue facilitated by mediators such as Mexico, Uruguay, and the Pope. We have seen, and are seeing now at the U.S.-Mexico border, the effects of past U.S. backed coups in Latin America — Guatemala in 1953, Chile in 1973, Honduras in 2009. It always turns out disastrous for the people.

Two initiatives are underway in Congress to promote a peaceful solution: Representatives Ro Khanna and Pramila Jayapal have penned a Dear Colleague letter to Mike Pompeo addressing the harm US sanctions are having on the Venezuelan people and the need for dialogue facilitated by Mexico, Uruguay, and the Pope. Representative David Cicilline has introduced legislation making it clear to President Trump that without congressional authorization - authorization he does NOT have - he may not use military force in Venezuela.

Send a message to your Representative in Congress telling them to add their name to the Khanna-Jayapal letter (current signers include Khanna, Jayapal, Grijalva, Omar, Hank Johnson) and join the Cicilline legislation as an original co-sponsor.

If you live in the U.S. please send a direct message to the Democrats below, if you live outside the U.S. please scroll down to  sign the petition below:

Overseas supporters can sign this Petition:

Dear House of Representatives,

The U.S. has a long and sordid history of supporting coups in Latin America — Guatemala in 1953, Chile in 1973, Honduras in 2009 — and it always turned out disastrous for the people. It’s urgent that you speak out against the Trump administration’s strategy of regime change, including the possibility of a U.S. military intervention.

U.S. economic sanctions have devastated Venezuela’s economy, exacerbating food and medicine shortages, widespread poverty, and mass migration. The people of Venezuela need sanctions to be lifted and dialogue between the Maduro government and the opposition. Mexico and Uruguay have offered to mediate, as has the Pope. A democratic process, not a coup, should be supported.

Please add your name to the Ro Khanna and Pramila Jayapal Dear Colleague letter to Mike Pompeo (current signers are Khanna, Jayapal, Grijalva, Omar, and Hank Johnson) addressing the harm US sanctions are having on the Venezuelan people and the need for dialogue facilitated by Mexico, Uruguay, and the Pope.

Please also become an original co-sponsor of Representative David Cicilline’s legislation, making it clear to President Trump that without congressional authorization, military force may not be used in Venezuela. After becoming an original co-sponsor of the legislation, please encourage revision of the legislation’s over the top “horror of the Maduro regime” language. It should be toned down and revised to be similar to the Khanna-Jayapal letter, which contains very important language on the harm being done to the Venezuelan people by the sanctions and the need for dialogue - facilitated by Mexico, Uruguay, and the Pope - to move forward to address this crisis, rather than the US coup strategy.

Sincerely,

We’re buying their oil-we don’t have to steal from another country with lies from MSM! Didn’t we learn a lesson from the debacle in Iraq?

American interventions regarding the Venezuala duly elected President Maduro is totally uncalled for. The Pope and other supporters of the Venezuelan people should be relied on rather than American private Interests regarding oil.

The US has NO right in deciding on how other countries run. As a US citizen I say STOP w/ the vile US sanctions that have been destroying the Venezuelan economy (harming millions of its ppl & demonizing its legitimately elected President Madura -not to mention its govt, bc they dared follow a syst other than capitalism). I say NO to how our US Govt feels entitled to further bleed its own citizens (engaging in taxation w/o representation) just to pursue this egregious coup -clearly aimed at looting the Venezuelan’s huge oil reserves so our armament business can lavishly thrive & a few super powerful families can continue to privatize/monopolize the earth for themselves. Disaster & slaughter have followed this hideous agenda for far too long, It MUST STOP.

The problems in Venezuela stem largely from US sanctions going way back—not from “socialist” policies. Read the CIA Fact book to get it straight that the the program implemented by Chavez, cut poverty in half, imporved houseing and increased literacy and access to potable water. The “victim” in all thsi was the Erurocentric heretofore ruling class who, for the first time in their lives, were taxed. Yes! I cannot begin to tell you how strongly I oppose US intervention in foreign internal matters, which wouldn’t be like they are if not for US. Don’t you dare to lay a finger on this country!!

No more blood for oil. Let Venezuela work out their future. Stop sanctions, give back control over their assets so they can help their people, and hands off their nationalized resources.
