#deactivateAirbnb on May 15

On April 9, 2019 Airbnb did a complete reversal of its historic announcement to stop listing rentals in illegal Israeli settlements. They announced that they will continue to promote tourism on the ruins of Palestinian lives and land. This is deeply disappointing. In response, advocates for Palestinian rights are organizing a massive Deactivate Airbnb campaign for May 15 — Nakba Day.

The Nakba is the Palestinian term for the events of 1948 that established the state of Israel. It means “the catastrophe” in Arabic, underscoring the fact that 750,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes to make way for the new state and over 500 Palestinian villages were destroyed.

The Nakba continues with each day that Palestinian land is occupied. From Jerusalem to the West Bank and Gaza, Airbnb enables this occupation.

For Nakba Day, May 15, we are joining with our partners at Jewish Voice for Peace, American Muslims for Palestine, the international Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, and others to call on people around the world to pledge to #DeactivateAirbnb — if you don’t have an Airbnb account or are unable to deactivate your account, you can take action on Nakba Day by sending Airbnb an email asking them to stop contributing to violations of Palestinian rights.

Add your name to this international pledge. We will then send you links you can use on Nakba Day to either deactivate your Airbnb account and/or send Airbnb a direct message asking them to stop contributing to violations of Palestinian rights.
