Tell members of Congress to continue building support for better U.S.-Cuba relations.

On the weekend of December 9th, Reps. Mark Pocan (WI), Troy Carter (LA), and James McGovern (MA) traveled to Havana, Cuba to meet with Cuban officials and U.S. medical students. These three congressmen echoed the message we’ve been repeating since Biden took office: We need to get back on track to a path of diplomacy with Cuba. Join us in thanking the congressional delegation for traveling to Havana and ask them to initiate a Congressional letter calling on the Biden administration to take Cuba off the State Sponsor of Terrorism list.

Dear Representatives,

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for traveling to Havana on the weekend of December 9th to meet with Cuban officials. Thank you for leading by example and expressing the sentiment of the majority of the people in the U.S. who want the opportunity to build stronger relationships with our Cuban neighbors. As a follow-up, we respectfully ask you to consider initiating a Dear Colleague letter asking President Biden to take Cuba off the State Sponsor of Terrorism list. We would enthusiastically work with your offices to get your Congressional colleagues to sign on

When President Biden was elected, many of us were excited about the prospect of the return to Obama’s diplomatic policies towards Cuba. However, since taking office, the Biden administration has failed to overturn most of Trump’s sanctions and remove Cuba from the State Sponsor of Terrorism list. We appreciate and echo Rep. Jim McGovern’s goals for future U.S.-Cuba relations, including the need to remove Cuba from the State Sponsor of Terrorism list, lift the embargo and increase cooperation in areas of mutual interest. We understand that many of these policy changes can be made through executive action and appreciate your help in relaying this message of support for these actions to the Biden Administration.

We welcome your leadership in initiating these Cuba-U.S. exchanges and encourage you to continue building support for better relations with Cuba by leading a Dear Colleagues letter asking President Biden to take Cuba off the terrorist list and return to President Obama’s policy of normalizing relations. We are excited to continue working with you to move our nation toward diplomacy with Cuba in 2023!

Sincerely,
