Yemen has spent the past five years embroiled in a brutal war with a coalition led by Saudi Arabia and supported by the U.S. Already, countless innocent lives have been lost. To make matters worse, Yemen’s weakened state means the country has been hit especially hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The people of Yemen have suffered far too long, and we will not let Congress ignore their struggle any longer. Along with our ally the Yemeni Alliance Committee, we are declaring July 15 to be a National Day of Action for Yemen.

Urge your representative and senators to demand USAID to restore aid to all parts of Yemen immediately and ensure the Sanders-Lee-Murphy and Malinowski amendments for Yemen are included in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)!

Don’t let your activism stop there. There is more you can do to help the people of Yemen:

Dear Reps,

As your constituent, I urge you to take action to support the people of Yemen. For the past five years, Yemen has not known peace, having been embroiled in a bloody civil war with a coalition led by Saudi Arabia and supported by the U.S. Additionally, years of violent destruction and a severe blockade mean the country is not adequately equipped to handle the coronavirus pandemic. The country has already suffered so deeply, and with each day that passes without action, more innocent lives are lost.

That is why I am writing to you today with three requests. First, to demand USAID restore and expand aid to all parts of Yemen in this critical moment. Second, to ensure the Sanders-Lee-Murphy and Malinowski amendments included in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), thereby halting U.S. weapon sales to Saudi Arabia. Finally, I implore you to do everything in your power to halt U.S. support for the Saudi coalition and end our involvement in this brutal war.

The situation in Yemen is truly dire. I find it abhorrent that the United States would not only ignore Yemen’s struggle, but directly enable it. By working toward these three objectives, we have the opportunity to directly support the people of Yemen and help end the violence and cruelty they have endured for five years. Please stand up for the people of Yemen and end our country’s enablement of their suffering.

Sincerely,
