An apology to the people of Iran

PeaceWithIran.jpg

These are indeed terrifying times. Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement is reckless, baseless and dangerous. We cannot allow him to take us down the path towards war with Iran.

Join Jane Fonda, Oliver Stone, Danny Glover, Noam Chomsky, Vijay Prashad, Eve Ensler, Mike Farrell, Frances Fisher, Shiva Rose, Matthew Modine, UPPJ, IPS, World Beyond War, Voices for Non Violence and more in reaching out to the Iranian people with an apology for our president’s unscrupulous behavior and a pledge to try to reverse this decision. We will publicize this “Apology to the Iranian People” via social media and publications inside Iran.

Open Letter to the People of Iran from the American People

Dear Friends,

We, the undersigned, apologize for Donald Trump’s reckless, baseless, and dangerous decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear agreement and we pledge to do everything we can to reverse that decision.

We are ashamed that our government has broken an agreement that was already signed not just by the United States and Iran, but also by France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China, and then approved by the entire UN Security Council in a unanimous vote. We are ashamed that our government has broken a deal that was working, a deal with which Iran was complying, a deal  that was making our entire world safer and could have moved our nations closer towards the path of friendship.

Unlike our president, we believe that a deal is a deal. Unlike our president, we want to resolve the conflicts in the Middle East, not escalate them. Unlike our president, we want our nation’s resources to be dedicated to enriching people’s lives, not enriching the weapons makers. Unlike our president, we want to live in peace and harmony with the people of Iran.

We understand that our nation already has a dreadful history of meddling in the internal affairs of your country. The 1953 coup that overthrew your democratically elected government was unconscionable. So was US support for Iraq’s Saddam Hussein when he invaded Iran in 1980, including selling him material for making chemical weapons that were used against you. The 1988 shooting down of an Iranian civilian airliner, killing all 290 passengers and crew, was unconscionable. So, too, are the decades of covert actions to overthrow your government and the decades of sanctions that have brought such needless suffering to ordinary Iranians.

We understand that the US government has no business interfering in your internal affairs or in the Middle East in general. We should not be selling weapons to nations guilty of gross human rights violations or sending our military to fight in faraway lands. With all the flaws in our own society--from massive inequality and racism to a political system corrupted by monetary influences--we should clean up our own house instead of telling others how to govern themselves.

We will do everything in our power to stop Donald Trump from strangling your economy and taking us to war with you. We will ask the UN to sanction the United States for violating the nuclear agreement. We will urge the Europeans, Russians, and Chinese to keep the deal alive and increase their trade relations. And we will work to rid ourselves of this unscrupulous president and replace him with someone who is trustworthy, moral, and committed to diplomacy.

Please accept our hand in friendship. May the peacemakers prevail over those who sow hatred and discord.

Sincerely,

    My Iranian brothers and sisters:

Please accept the emphatic apologies of this American citizen that voted AGAINST Donald Trump because he is the worst example of the dysfunctional culture here in the United States of America. I myself was raised in a house 26,400 feet (5.0 miles) from the nearest mainline transit service and taught that attending and graduating from college as a well-rounded student (aka with a bunch of extracurricular activities on my résumé) is the route to economic prosperity. Unfortunately, I am not suited as a college student and that pretty much throws my parents’ tutelage in the trash.

It is in that light along with a series of significant setbacks that I have formed the perspective that politicians like Donald Trump have nothing of any constructive utility. I have recently become a first-time uncle as the result of my brother having a daughter; drawing upon that experience along with witnessing the proactive maintenance of my younger sister and brother in their infancy, I have had driven home that regular diaper changes are a crucial component of caring for a small child and believe that it is also of immense wisdom to behave toward our politicians — especially the career politicians that have been in office for a decade or longer — in a similar manner for many of the same reasons. Here in Bexar County, there is a military fat farm (M2F) inmate that has held office as County Commissioner since I relocated to San Antonio back in May 2001 that wants another term; if I have things my way, the M2F inmate will finally get his walking papers out of office and Bexar County will be a little better off for it. Then again, I might not have accomplished much in the end . . .

This is not a nuclear issue, but the US government knew that the people on power in IRAN has stolen a lot of iranian governt money and had killed thousands of iranian people so if government changes those money will come to the west’s banks. Also the western governments have organized pupit groups from iranian refuges and immigrants to replace the current government.

western countries dont care about iranian people they care about geopolitical locations and resources.

From the Beginning, Iran wasn’t making any nuclear bomb. Everything Israel does it says Iran does; Israel has over 200 A-bombs, even doesn’t allow UN to inspect. Israel jailed and tortured whistle blower Vanunu for decades, and he’s still not allowed to leave Israel. Please watch this film my daughter made, “A little bit fascist”, taken from US & European news, you will see Israeli settlers, while enjoying picnicking on top of a hill (like those lynchers in America did to blacks) while watching the Israeli bombing & destruction of Palestinians -a young Israeli woman proudly & laughingly called herself a little fascistic! And a mayor of one of those settler cities tells the reporter that they have a lot of agents in the Israel army (US has caught one of those Zionists in our own American army). Those fanatic Israeli soldiers (probably in charge of nuclear weapons) could use & have threatened to use those nuclear weapons – while Israel is the most isolated and hated than it has ever been.

Maybe Europe knows these things better than we (about the real threat of Israel) and can’t say anything, so they accept Iran as a punching bag, not only from Israel, but also from US & Saudis. We are so glad that this time, Europe showed guts, thinking of its future & didn’t go a long with US’s sanctions against Iran (like Europe joined US’s invasion of Iraq, Libya, Syria & started the horrible human phenomena of terrorism) -And Europe didn’t join the massacre party at the US’s Jerusalem embassy. Why doesn’t Europe lead the whole world & United Nations to have a secure Middle East, with no a-bomb? Because we think the world, especially Europe is under very serious threat of the world’s most brutal, isolated & hated government in man’s history after Nazis. Thank you Code Pink for this petition.

Trump’s decisions are always enmeshed within the confines of white supremacy, settler colonialism, and Islamophobia. The pulling out of this deal is yet another exemplar of a world that Trump and his cronies envision — of borders, of whiteness, of us vs. them, and of the haves and have nots. I reject this vision and pray for a more free and fulfilling planet in which we are all considered human.
