While some Islamophobes revel in the appellation [Brigette Gabrielle, Pamela Gellar], most don’t relish being called a ‘bigot’. Suggest the two always be linked, i.e.; “Islamophobic bigot” to insure the pejorative intent is impossible to deflect.

my sense is that — at least before the republican presidential debates — even many bds activists were unaware of how deep islamophobia runs in the u.s. (the worthlessness of Islamic lives has underlain u.s. foreign policy at least for a quarter of a century) so it does seem that there is probably still a strong need for educating ourselves and the u.s. public about this reality.

among much else, that means somehow making sure that the word “islamophobia” gets to be on everyone’s lips.

This is a most urgent issue and I am glad you are providing people with the opportunity to network. We really need PUBLICITY. There is no very visible group speaking out in solidarity with Muslims now, and no public face of a truly multiracial movement for tolerance and, yes, rationality. These days on the city streets I often see ordinary people of different ethnic groups going out of their way to express some kind of kindness and respect to each other in very quiet ways—-even a smile, or just an extra thank you. If we look around, American society is visibly very “integrated” in many ways, despite the great inequalities that exist. Americans should be proud of this, and of being able to share these experiences with the world. No need to backslide now!!! What are the ways we can gather many people together to express our belief in tolerance and respect? Would Muslims feel at risk in participating in such rallies or demonstrations?

How about insisting that mosques and muslim schools actually inform the authorities when they discover that Islamic fundamentalism is being encouraged to the point of inspiring people to take violent action ?
