Tuesday, November 15 Capitol Calling Party: Midterms, Georgia, and Foreign Policy

Tuesday, Nov 15 Capitol Calling Party

On Tuesday, November 15, join CODEPINK Congress for the next Capitol Calling Party to talk with special guests about the recent midterm elections, their implications on foreign policy, and what work is left to be done.

With dust still settling from the midterms, CODEPINK Congress and Massachusetts Peace Action predict the impact on foreign policy by a Republican-controlled House, a Republican lock on Florida’s Senate seats and a tight Senate race in Georgia where an anti-interventionist libertarian candidate could decide whether the Republicans or Democrats control the Senate. Is there a silver lining? Stay tuned as we analyze the results of the midterms and opportunities for a more enlightened foreign policy.

Featuring:

Phyllis Bennis is the director of the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies, focusing on Middle East, U.S. wars and UN issues. Phyllis will give an update on the effects of US elections on Israel (including an update on the Israeli elections), the possible impact of a Republican-controlled House on the war in Ukraine, and the impact of European protests to demand diplomacy, not sanctions.

Scott Horton is the director of The Libertarian Institute at LibertarianInstitute.org, editorial director of Antiwar.com, host of Antiwar Radio for Pacifica, 90.7 FM KPFK in Los Angeles, California and host of the Scott Horton Show podcast on ScottHorton.org. He is the author of "Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terrorism" and more. Scott will discuss the role libertarians can play in elevating the  anti-war message in the Georgia Senate run-off, as well as the Presidential race in 2024.

Erik Sperling is the executive director of Just Foreign Policy. Earlier, Erik worked as Senior Adviser and Counsel in the offices of Congressman Ro Khanna and Congressman John Conyers. He has a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Erik will talk about the impact of the midterms and geopolitics on Middle East foreign policy, with a laser focus on Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Medea Benjamin is the co-founder of CODEPINK and co-author with Nicolas J.S. Davies of the newly-released book, “War in Ukraine: Making Sense of a Senseless Conflict". Recently returned from delivering medicines to Cuba, Medea will share her thoughts on how Republican Senator Marco Rubio’s overwhelming defeat of Democrat Val Demmings in Florida could create the space for the Biden White House to start unraveling Trump-era policies and move towards normalization.
