Thanksgiving is right around the corner and instead of honoring its tradition of welcoming and giving, many have chosen to close the doors on those who need us most. Tell your Senators that this Thanksgiving, you want to welcome Syrian refugees!
Last week, the House of Representatives passed the Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act, an outright racist and irrational bill that aims to further exclude people trying to flee a region riddled by a US- fueled war. All but two Republicans, as well as 47 Democrats, voted in favor of this fear-mongering policy in the wake of the Paris tragedy.
Refugees are facing incredible hardships and trauma as they flee from conflict and terror. In this time of giving, we cannot listen to racist rhetoric and turn away those who are most in need. We should not only welcome but provide more assistance to refugees.
The fate of thousands of Syrian and Iraqi refugees is in the hands of the Senate; we must make sure that they make the right decision. Tell them to oppose all attempts to make it harder for refugees from Iraq and Syria to come to the US. Raise your voices for those who need a home, and make sure the US does not turn its back on them. Email your Senators today!
This holiday season, instead of spending money driving the war economy on Black Friday, let’s show our gratitude by welcoming refugees and supporting our Buy Nothing Friday ideas. Pay special attention to #9. Thank you for your compassion.
In solidarity for justice,
