Sep 16-18 MIC at 50 brought together activists and scholars who mind the vast economic sector of military contracting, and the taxes that feed it. Ann Wright spoke Fri. night at the Haven, while Lisa Savage led a federal budget activity on conversion Sat., and was part of an activism panel speaking about the Bring Our War $ Home Campaign, both PINK and Maine versions. Ray McGovern, George Friday, Clare Hanrahan, Robert Naiman et al. joined David Swanson in his hometown and the heart of the MIC. Connections between the Pentagon, university research grants, and local economies was one among many themes. It was poignant watching the live feed of young people beginning to occupy Wall St. while we examined the bloody end of the business of war. We sold many t-shirts from our past Draw-a-thon designs, and took lots of photos of people with their PINK Make ___ Not War signs. Best of the day: tofu!
