Standing Against Islamophobia

July 28, 2011
CODEPINK Maine
Rockland, ME

Al Jazeera's Wash DC bureau chief spoke at a museum fundraiser in the heart of Maine's tourism region, and CODEPINK Maine members joined around 30 people at a counter protest sparked by Islamophobia on display in newspaper articles before the event. About a dozen people turned up to distribute literature from a Florida based organization that claims the twin evils of "Islamofascism" and political correctness threaten U.S. security. The crowd entering the theater to attend the talk were vocally appreciative of the presence of those of us holding signs in favor of freedom of the press and civil discourse. A gentleman in period costume as General Henry Knox and his companion were especially appreciative. We thank our coalition partners Mid-Coast Peace & Justice for organizing the counter protest.
