STRIKE May 2011! Redirecting our economic priorities Day 2 May 2, 2011Bay Area CODEPINK Vallejo, CA | ||

The peace sojourners on their journey from the Bay Area to Sacramento spent the morning visiting the Glen Cove Sacred Burial Ground. We were just south of Vallejo along the Carquinez Strait, a natural channel that connects the Sacramento River Delta to the San Francisco Bay. This 15-acre site is owned by the City of Vallejo and slated for development into a “fully featured “ park. (For more info on the struggle visit www.protectglencove.org). Native peoples have been occupying the site for three weeks and we went to support them in protecting one of the last remaining shell mounds in the North Bay area. They were very happy to have us there and reciprocated with a beautiful healing ceremony to support our action. The afternoon was spent in downtown Vallejo bannering and leafleting. Vallejo is a bankrupt city, and so we chose to focus on "Busting the Myth." We spend over $126 Billion per year for war, our government spent billions bailing out corporations and financial institutions, tax cuts have been extended during a time of severe budget shortfalls, yet when we need money for human services the answer is “We’re broke!” We then went on to spend the night at Skyline Park in Napa where we had our second day of action. |
