We started our day in Portland where we visited the offices of Rep. Chellie Pingree, Sen. Susan Collins & Sen. Olympia Snowe with Bring Our War $$ Home packets of information. Our ask: meet with us to discuss the need to change our spending priorities in Congress. On to the state capital where we rallied with about 300 people in the rotunda. So great to have C.J. visiting us to lend a hand! Nearly everyone wanted to wear a pink BOW$H sticker. Nicole did an awesome job at the podium talking about student debt in her pink BOW$H t-shirt, another popular item. Headline story on Maine Public Radio featured an amazing mayor, Joanne Twomey of Biddeford, who turned up at the podium unexpectedly to say: bring our war dollars home so I won't have to cut funding for K-12 education! Bring Back the Mural rally went right after ours and was also well attended and noisy. Workers' rights, solidarity, and the need to push back against Maine's budget slashing governor were the themes we heard while tabling for CP and helping conduct a Draw-in where the public said what they would rather have spent $3.4 billion on instead of wars.
